Configuring Disconnection Rate Rules in the Citrix Management Pack for MOM 2005

    Introduction

This article explains how to configure and enable the rules that govern the “Rate of session disconnects is high” alert in the MetaFrame Presentation Server Management Pack for Microsoft Operations Manager (MOM). This alert is raised in response to the number of ICA session disconnections that occur within a specified period. This article also provides a typical example to illustrate how you configure and enable these rules.

Configuring the ICA Session Disconnection Rules

You can configure the Management Pack to generate an alert in response to the number of ICA session disconnections that occur within a specified period. To do this, configure and enable the following three rules in the MOM Administrator Console:

    • Disconnections: subscribe to session disconnection events. When enabled, this rule subscribes to ICA session disconnection Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI) events so that the appropriate data is captured in the WMI database. The data is then checked by a script (see below for details).

    • Disconnections: check rate of disconnections. This rule runs a script that examines the captured WMI events to determine whether the number of disconnections in a specific period is too high. If the rate is too high, the script generates a MOM event. By default, 10 disconnections in 60 seconds generate a MOM event. Note that this script also clears the WMI database of unwanted session disconnection data.

    • Disconnections: rate of session disconnects is high. This rule triggers the “Rate of session disconnects is high” alert in response to the MOM event. This alert indicates a possible fault.

These rules are located in: Management Packs > Rule Groups > Citrix MetaFrame (enabled) > MetaFrame Server Rules (enabled) > Event Rules.

The rules are disabled by default to avoid raising false alerts. For example, if your users normally disconnect their sessions at the end of the working day, rather than logging off, a false alert may be raised each evening. To avoid false alerts, configure the rules for your specific site and then enable all three rules. For example, you may want to configure the rules to function only during normal working hours.

Important: To enable the “Rate of session disconnects is high” alert, you must enable all three rules. Do not enable just one rule without the others or the alert will not be generated and you run the risk of filling the database with WMI data that is never deleted. Likewise, do not disable one rule without disabling the other two rules.

    Example

In this example you want to configure and enable the rules so that the “Rate of session disconnects is high” alert is generated if 15 or more ICA session disconnections occur in 30 seconds. To do this:

    1. Log on to the MOM Administrator Console.

    2. Navigate to Management Packs > Rule Groups > Citrix MetaFrame (enabled) > MetaFrame Server Rules (enabled) > Event Rules.

    3. Double-click the Disconnections: subscribe to session disconnection events rule to display its properties.

    4. To enable this rule, click the General tab, choose This rule is enabled and click OK.

    5. Double-click the Disconnections: check rate of disconnections rule to display its properties.

    6. Select the Responses tab, highlight the Citrix MetaFrame Compute Event entry, and click Edit. The Launch a Script dialog box is displayed.

    7. In Script Parameters, highlight MaxInstances and click Edit Parameter. The Edit Script Parameter dialog box is displayed. MaxInstances represents the number of ICA session disconnections that will trigger the alert. By default this is set to 10. Change this to 15 and click OK.

    8. In Script Parameters, highlight Period and click Edit Parameter. The Edit Script Parameter dialog box is displayed. Period represents the number of seconds in which the sample is gathered. By default this is set to 60 seconds. Change this to 30 and click OK.

    9. Click OK to close the Launch a Script dialog box.

    10. To enable this rule, click the General tab, choose This rule is enabled and click OK.

    11. Double-click the Disconnections: rate of session disconnects is high rule to display its properties.

    12. To enable this rule, click the General tab, choose This rule is enabled and click OK.

    13. To apply your changes, right click on Management Packs and select Commit Configuration Change.

    Beta Now Refreshed! image

    Connect Beta

First of all, thank-you for your interest in trying the Connect beta release. We are looking forward to showing you our latest improvements based on your feedback. Just a couple of important things to note before you begin:
    What to Expect:

    • Your activity on the beta. Although you will see all or most of your current connections and content, all of your activity on the beta (connections, feedback, newsgroup messages, etc.) will be taken as test data and will be disregarded after the beta period ends. So, we encourage you to play around and party on with the new features as much as you want. But if you are looking for the real thing, please go to http://connect.microsoft.com as always.
    • Languages supported on the beta. Only US-English language is supported on the beta site. Even if your browser configuration is set to a different language you will only see English content.
    • Beta dates. The Beta will run for approximately 6-8 weeks before the production site is updated, we will put some advance notice up on the production site before making the upgrade.
    • Hearing from us on your feedback. We love to hear from you and we always aim to close the loop as well. However, due to the high volume of users in this beta, we may not be able to comment on every suggestion or bug.
    • 1-step registration process on beta. In order to see some areas of the beta site you need to be a registered user. Because this is a beta release we have reduced the normal registration process to a 1-step wizard.

Service Manager will not be released until the first half of 2010, with a beta refresh available towards the end of 2008

    System Center Service Manager Update

On paul Ross his webblog there is an Item about Service Manager.

You can still download the beta on the connect site. To bad that we all have to wait so long for this fresh new product. But if you have tested the beta you all know the performance was not that good and there was a long wish list for addon's to this product. there are now several new systemcenter products an the market  it would make sense that Microsoft will make this one suite to integrate with all SC products.

     Post from Paul Ross

As the person responsible for the product marketing of System Center Service Manager, our IT service desk and IT service management product, I wanted to provide an update on the timeline for the release of the product. I also wanted to share some of the reasons for the change to that timeline.

We’ve had a great response to the first beta of Service Manager that we made available earlier in the year, with thousands of downloads. This beta, along with input from our Technology Adoption Program customers (a group who we work very closely with on the development of the product), provided a lot of really good feedback on how to ensure this product will meet customer needs.

The relevant feedback here can be summarized as:

    • Improve performance
    • Enhance integration with the rest of the System Center product family and with the wider Microsoft product offering

To meet these requirements we have decided to replace specific components of the Service Manager infrastructure. We will also take this opportunity to align the product with the rest of the System Center family by taking advantage proven technologies in use in those products already deployed and successful in our customers'. These will be enhanced and evolved to meet the needs of Service Manager. This will deliver an infrastructure that is not only better performing but will support more complete integration across System Center – with the associated benefits to our customers and partners.

These changes mean that Service Manager will now not be released until the first half of 2010, with a beta refresh available towards the end of 2008.

I’m confident that our strategy for Service Manager is going to provide the capabilities that our customers are asking for in terms of the IT service desk, deep integration across System Center products, and support for service management process frameworks such ITIL or MOF. I know any delay is unfortunate, but we must ensure that the product is ready on day one, rather than deliver a product that has to be changed once it is deployed in customers' environments.

There will be much more detail on these changes and the progress we are making with Service Manager on this blog in the coming months and I look forward to sharing it as our vision becomes a reality. In the meantime, check out this short FAQ that hits the main points regarding the delay.

Have you ever wondered what is the method to get your Password

wirelesskeyview_iconThere are tools and tools. Tools to find your windows key or to find your MOMDAS or MOMaction password.

never use a sequence in your password like company name, year , or product name "windows, mom or SC0M " or year 2007, 2008. this is to easy to hack or better your name or kids , pets or the day of birth. use the well know table to get the password from your services. and if the services account uses a admin account ;-) . sometimes you get on sites and the admin put his password in the server.  on a Q6600 8 gb mem it takes about 4 hours to get 400 users account with password included even with !@#$%$%^ etc

but what is if you are on a wireless machine and the key is already on the machine.

keycontrol Well you can scan it crackit , ask for the key.

    Equinix neemt virtu over

    Equinix Europe

    Virtu datacentrum nieuwe AMS-IX PoP?
